Dr. Amanda Tucker
Principal, Emerson Elementary

Hello Emerson Elementary Families,

My name is Dr. Amanda Tucker, and I am honored to serve as the new principal of Emerson Elementary! With 19 years in education—11 of those in administration—I am deeply committed to fostering a learning environment where every child feels valued, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential.

My educational journey includes a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU), as well as a Ph.D. in Educational Administration, Curriculum, and Supervision from the University of Oklahoma. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching a wide range of English Language Arts courses including 7th and 10th grade ELA, Honors and Pre-AP, AP Language and Literature, Film as Literature, and Drama.

I became a teacher because I wanted to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives and find purpose in my daily work. Education is a powerful force—what Sam Seaborn once called “the silver bullet.” I believe in that wholeheartedly. Every day in education is an opportunity to impact lives and shape our communities for the better.

My educational philosophy is rooted in Constructivism—a belief that students build knowledge through experience, collaboration, and real-world application. Learning is not one-size-fits-all; it thrives in diverse, student-centered environments where ideas are explored together and meaning is constructed both individually and socially. I’m passionate about creating those spaces and driving initiatives, such as arts integration, that deepen student engagement and learning.

This year, I am especially excited to become part of the Emerson Elementary Wildcats family. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff to build on the strong foundation already in place and explore new ways to enrich the educational experiences of our students.

Outside of school, I’m a proud mother of four and Gigi to six wonderful grandchildren. My greatest joy comes from spending time with my husband, who is also my best friend. I also enjoy swimming, traveling, and brushing up on my sign language skills—a fun fact many are surprised to learn about me!

One of my favorite books is Fahrenheit 451, and I live by the words of Ray Bradbury: “Stuff your eyes with wonder.” I also love his reflection that “We are cups, quietly and constantly being filled. The trick is knowing how to tip ourselves over and let the beautiful stuff out.”

It’s a privilege to join this vibrant community, and I can’t wait to begin this new chapter together!
