Lauren Buchanan-Kingston
1st Grade Teacher
Dear Families and Students,
My name is Lauren Buchanan-Kingston, and I am absolutely thrilled to introduce myself as your 1st grade teacher! This school year is particularly special for me, as it will be my very first year leading my own classroom.
I hold an Associate’s degree in Arts and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. My journey into teaching began after working as the head of the childcare center at Retro Fitness in Kenilworth, New Jersey for two years, and more recently, as a 2nd grade teacher’s aide for one year. It was during that time in the classroom that I discovered how much I love working with children and helping them reach and exceed their goals. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing the moment when something clicks for a student—that “aha!” moment brings me so much joy.
My teaching philosophy is rooted in humanism. I strive to create a classroom environment where all students feel safe, valued, and inspired to grow not only academically but also as individuals. I believe that when students feel welcomed and supported, they can achieve truly amazing things.
A little bit about me personally: I recently moved to Oklahoma from New Jersey in September of 2024 with my husband, Sam, and our four furry companions—three cats and one dog. I’ve played soccer since I was four years old and even reached the semi-professional level in college. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy collecting Pokémon cards, playing video games, and expanding my colorful collection of Crocs (I currently have 52 pairs!). One of my favorite books is Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand—it’s a powerful story of resilience and strength.
