Second grade is always busy. Once I’ve determined who is and isn’t in class that day, we immediately start Soft Seven Math Races. The students in second grade are doing subtraction this semester. They started the year with addition math races. Making the transition from addition to subtraction is challenging for most of the students, but eventually they all do well. After I have taken a score for all the students, then we begin to work on Study Island. It is an excellent program. I use it to assist the objectives that the teachers are covering in the classroom. I present a lesson, then the students and I do a practice assignment together, usually playing a game while doing so, then the students will either do an independent assignment over the same objective or we will do a group session together. It depends greatly on the objective covered that day. I love working with second grade.
