The 2017 Alumni/Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet will take place on Saturday, May 27, 2017.

The 2017 Hall of Fame class will be announced in February 2017.

The Hall of Fame designation is awarded to an individual and/or team who meet the qualifications outlined below in the following three categories:

All nominees must have a minimum of 10 years separation from high school graduation before being eligible.

  1. Athletic Player at Coalgate HS and/or had an excellent college career as a player
  2. Coaching at Coalgate HS or graduate of Coalgate with Distinguished Coaching Career
  3. Meritorious Achievement for Coalgate HS athletics

Athletic Player

Any candidate for receipt of the Hall of Fame designation in the category of outstanding player must meet the following three (3) criteria:

  1. Is a graduate of Coalgate HS or played at least 1 year of Varsity Athletics for Coalgate
  2. Excelled in athletics at Coalgate HS and/or during his or her athletic career after leaving Coalgate to such a degree that the individual distinguished himself or herself as an exceptional athlete and made a positive impact on the team or in the sport participated
  3. Receipt of the Award would bring honor and respect to Coalgate HS at the time of the individual’s induction

Coaching

Any candidate for receipt of the Hall of Fame designation in the category of coaching must meet three (3) of the following four (4) criteria.

  1. Must be a current or former head coach, assistant coach, or athletic administrator at Coalgate HS for a minimum of 5 years
  2. The candidate must have graduated from Coalgate HS to qualify
  3. The candidate must have excelled in the profession of coaching at the HS, college, and or professional level in his or her chosen field of coaching
  4. Receipt of the Award would bring honor and respect to Coalgate HS at the time of the individual’s induction

Meritorious Achievement

Any candidate for Receipt of the Hall of Fame designation in the category of meritorious achievement must meet the following three (3) criteria:

  1. The designation is awarded to an individual who has made a remarkable and long-lasting impact upon Coalgate HS and its athletic program through a minimum of 5 years of service.
  2. The areas recognized as significant are that of volunteering their time, giving extraordinary encouragement to athletes of Coalgate HS, and their unselfish monetary contributions.
  3. Receipt of the Award would bring honor and respect to Coalgate HS at the time of the individual’s induction.

Procedural Rules for Awards

No member of the selection committee is eligible for election into the Hall of Fame while serving in that capacity. The committee will receive nominations until October 31st of each year. The committee will then do the research on the nominees past contributions and will determine the top 25 candidates in an evaluation process using a variety of resources. The seven (7)-member committee will each rank the candidates 1 thru 20 and the top four (4) individuals from any category and the top team may gain admittance into the Hall of Fame. Voting by the selection committee shall be by written ballot and votes recorded. Each year a maximum of four (4) living individuals and one (1) outstanding team will be recognized and inducted into the Hall of Fame. After the initial induction year, the individual members selected to the Hall of Fame will be given lifetime status to vote for future inductees as well as the selection committee.

Hall of Fame Banquet

The inductees will be introduced to the media by February of each year. The banquet to honor the inductees will be held in Coalgate, on the Saturday proceeding Memorial Day Weekend. Details of the location and program will be announced in March of each year.
